NAME: Grainne O’Neill.

NICKNAME: None (that I’m aware of)

AGE GROUP: Clinging desperately to 35-39……but not for much longer.

HOW LONG COMPETING: My first event was in Mullaghmore in 2003. I had just returned from a year and a half in sunny Western Australia and made the rather brilliant decision to do the swim (in the Atlantic) in just a pair of speedos. Having taken at least a week to de-frost the resultant corned beef arms and legs, I didn’t venture again until TriAthlone 2007 (another swim-related horror story)

FAVOURITE RACE: Caroline Kearney. I didn’t have a good race having swallowed a few pints-worth of Lough Ennell but it’s a brilliantly organized event and the atmosphere was great.

BEST TRI ADVICE RECEIVED: You live in Ireland now – buy a wetsuit you muppet.

HIGHLIGHTS TO DATE: Finishing my first Olympic distance event in brilliant sunshine at last years TriAthy.

ANYTHING ELSE: While water is used in the beer manufacturing process, drinking Heineken is not an effective way to re-hydrate.
