Our first day of March! A new month and a new initiative for our members!  This month, we are reaching out to those of you who we haven’t seen at training in a little while; whatever the reason ☺️ It can be difficult to make that comeback when you’ve been away for a time. It can be hard to show up when you feel you are stuck in a little training rut. It can be tough to restart the engine when you’ve lost your motivation.  But your club is here to help!! And we want to give you that gentle nudge to start again today!  This month, we invite you to get “Motivated for March” ….. and come back to training! Reconnect with your club mates, rediscover what it is you love about triathlon and find that motivation to train again! Even if it’s just one session a week to begin with ☺️ Why not come along to track this evening and start the month as you mean to go on!! You’ll be glad you did 🤗  Looking forward to hopefully seeing some familiar faces back this month 💪🏻  #ath...

Back On Track

After such a long spell away from group training and interaction, and missing that face to face mutual support and camaraderie from both coaches and club-mates, it’s incredibly invigorating and morale boosting to hear the buzz within the club about “being back together again”!  In a short number of weeks, we have created so many opportunities for our members to train together again; we’ve returned to fully coach led running sessions, open water group swims, social cycles and more challenging Sunday spins and our long awaited indoor swim sessions are just around the corner again. Our members have welcomed the return of that pre and post race buzz with our Summer TT Series and Duathlon Series making a comeback; and the friendly competition and participation so far has been fierce!!  Now with formal racing events on the calendar and chatter starting amongst members about registering for and taking on nationwide races, we are officially “back on track” and looking forward to a Sum...

Sunday Spins

They say Sunday is the best day of the week to reset and prepare for the new week ahead.  Today, that reset signaled a real attitude for gratitude and the return of our Sunday Spins - which as quoted by members was “faster, longer, harder with some dodgy gear and even better craic” - ideal return we say 😂 This latest group training session returning, alongside our open water swim session this past weekend, has now meant that ATC are providing opportunities for our members to train safely together 5 times a week!! And we are buzzing about having that group dynamic and camaraderie back! 💪🏻 We are open for membership and here to answer any questions you may have about joining! DM us today!!! 🗣 Here’s to another great week ahead! 🤗 #athlonetriathlonclub #athlonetriclub  #ATCMovingForMentalHealth #TrainingTogetherWhileStayingApart  #AthloneTriJuniorClub #iTrainWithAthloneTriClub

Group cycles are back! 🥳 🚴 🚴 🚴

Back on (the) Track

Our first outdoor training session together as a group in 2021 and it was a resounding vibe of positivity, reinvigoration and genuine gratitude for finally being able to come together as a club and train with coaches and clubmates face to face.  The banter was flying, that friendly sense of competitiveness was ever present, new members could finally meet the club faces behind that WhatsApp group chat and that unwavering ATC club spirit was shining bright!!  Coach Mick summed it up perfectly - “So good to meet you all in person again; it’s only going to get better!” 🖤💛 #athlonetriathlonclub #athlonetriclub #ATCMovingForMentalHealth #TrainingTogetherWhileStayingApart  #AthloneTriJuniorClub #iTrainWithAthloneTriClub

️ ⭐ Our Club Vision and Values ⭐

Our Club Committee are constantly working hard in the background to plan for the year ahead, to bring lots of great challenges, initiatives and training opportunities to all members and to keep Athlone Triathlon Club current, engaging and at the forefront of the Triathlon community in the Midlands. One very important factor in all our efforts, especially in recent times, has been the main vision for our Club and the values which underpin what we strive to achieve. A recent survey of all our Club Members, across all ages and levels, has allowed us to reimagine our purpose and direction not just for the remainder of this year, but for many years to come. By providing our members with the valuable opportunity to have their voices heard and offer feedback, suggestions and opinions, we now have a framework that sets a firm purpose for our Club and a key set of values and principles encapsulating our Club’s identity; which we will endeavour to keep at the heart of everything we do goin...

Conor Kelly - My Journey Back to Triathlon

My Triathlon Journey. My Triathlon obsession started when I was very young.   I was on holidays in Boston with my family in the late 1980’s.   My cousin was into the sport and I remember we sat for hours one day and watched Ironman Kona, which turned out to be the famous Ironwar race between Mark Allen and Dave Scott.  From that day until 2005, Triathlon was always in the back of my mind, but because the sport was not as mainstream as it is today, I never got a chance to race or even spectate at a race.  I must admit that Triathlon took a back seat to football and other team sports until 2005 when Triathlone took place for the first time and brought Triathlon to our doorstep.   All the Ironman memories came flooding back. I was so new to the sport and did not even know that Triathlons had different length races etc.  I was a spectator in 2005 but raced in 20...

⭐️ What’s the Point? ⭐️

This week marks one year since the words “stay at home”, “lockdown” and “restrictions” were introduced into our lives. It’s meant many adaptations to our routines and way of living and it has undoubtedly been a difficult year for so many reasons.  Since beginning 2021, with quiet hope for “normal” returning and eventually making it back to that precious race start line, our focus as a club has been on our members and keeping them engaged, active, connected and as motivated as we can. Recently, a member shared their thoughts on their current journey and finding it hard to locate that motivation to get out and train. This member found themselves asking the question “what’s the point”. (Sounds familiar right?!)  Fast forward a few hours, and our member’s chat is alive with similar thoughts and stories being shared and spoken about and a general realisation that “it’s not just me”!  BUT! Perhaps most importantly, we discovered “the point”.  Plain and simply? Because we c...

Let’s hear it for the boys!

Athlone Triathlon Club is an inclusive club that inspires, supports and engages a community of members to develop and achieve their best within the sport of Triathlon. We are proud to celebrate, empower, champion and value every single member, both male and female, across all ages and abilities in a mutually supportive club atmosphere.  It’s only fair, we think, that our amazing male athletes get their shout out today! 🤩👏🏻  The other half of our club community, with just as much energy, passion and commitment to ATC and the Sport of Triathlon.  We are grateful to “Tri” alongside each and every one of you; today you get our salute 👏🏻 #athlonetriathlonclub #athlonetriclub #ATCMovingForMentalHealth #TrainingTogetherWhileStayingApart  #AthloneTriJuniorClub #iTrainWithAthloneTriClub

Moving for Mental Health

Our #ATCMovingForMentalHealth initiative has now been ongoing for one month. And we aren’t finished yet.  Such a simple concept, but such an effective and positive outcome. The launch of this initiative back in early January served to encourage our members to keep a focus on their mental health as well as their physical health, and just as importantly to create a space for keeping in touch and staying together as a group. What has fundamentally transpired is a renewed energy amongst members, an environment where every member from beginner to elite is offering and being offered words of encouragement and a clear desire to keep moving and keep active to reap the benefits for our health.  We have reinforced our sense of community, our dedication to inclusivity and our desire to provide a fun, supportive and inspirational environment for all our athletes. What an amazing vision for our club for 2021!  #athlonetriathlonclub #athlonetriclub  #ATCMovingForMentalHealth #Trai...

A background to our Club

A very warm welcome to all our New Members and the many followers who have joined us!  Did you know that our club, here in the heart of the midlands, is around for almost 13 years now? Athlone Triathlon Club was established in 2008, when a small number of local athletes, who were training and racing as individuals, came together to form a club.  The club grew rapidly over the first few years, attracting a lot of newbies seeking to try out the sport of Triathlon; many of whom really took to it and are still involved with us today! We have tasted success many times over the years, with multiple members winning National Championship titles in their age groups, and success abroad in international competition. Our members have travelled worldwide to take part in amazing events such as World and European Championships, and grueling Ironman events.  We established a Junior section in the club, which is now entering it’s fourth year, and is continuing to grow strongly. Our club has emanated positive energy and encouragement, supported its members well-being both physically and mentally and maintained, promoted, and nurtured the Sport of Triathlon across all ages and abilities.  The spirit of our club has grown to new heights this year and we look to 2021 with unequivocal hope and determination. ⭐️ A Word from our Chairman ⭐

Dear Members, As we look at beginning another uncertain year I really feel that as a club we have some real reasons to be optimistic.  At the start of 2020, we all had our own individual sport goals that we hoped to achieve and many plans made for training and events. Little did we know that it would dramatically change before it even began, with Covid and the many restrictions that ensued leaving the sporting landscape looking very bleak.  Luckily, however, we are blessed at ATC to have a great committee and two of the very best and most innovative leaders within the sport as our coaches and mentors, who went above and beyond to ensure that it was indeed a year to remember - for all the right reasons. As a club we were more active than ever despite racing being formally cancelled nationwide. We had 20 plus weeks of at home coaching support and a catalogue of events to suit everyone at every level with duathlons, aquabike, triathlons, TT’s, endurance swims and much more,...

Christmas Mile Challenge

This weekend marked the end of our last club challenge for 2020 and what a brilliant end to the year for us!  Following 12 weeks of specific training from Coach Mick and sheer drive and determination from our members, 28 Juniors and Seniors set out throughout this past week to battle the cold conditions, run their fastest mile and record their time in comparison to the current World Records for age and gender. A fantastic but very tough challenge and a unique and diverse standardising of results which opened the playing field up to every single athlete partaking!  With a throwback thought to our first Lockdown activity of 2020 and our Stay at Home Duathlon; it’s very befitting of the current circumstances to see out this Covid year with another incredible “Stay At Home” challenge, more united and more determined as a club than ever before.  Congratulations to all our runners and well done.  🏃‍♀️ 🏃‍♂️ 👏🏻 ⭐️ #athlonetriathlonclub #athlonetriclub #TrainingTogetherWh...
