⭐️ Gold and Silver Wins at National Sprint Championships ⭐️

For club members Mick, Olivia, Ger, Kate and William, all roads led to Dunmore East last Saturday for the Boland’s BMW Hook or by Crook National Sprint Championships race; after a 2 year wait due to lockdowns, this was an eagerly awaited event and hotly contested by some of the best tri-athletes from around the country. The race featured a beach to beach 750m swim, an out and back 20km cycle on the Dunmore to Waterford road and a testing 5km run on the golf course before crossing the finish line.

Yet again, some really sterling performances yielded some medal finishes and rankings. Coach Mick Macken raced his way to a National Sprint Championships gold medal 🥇 with fellow coach Olivia McCartin taking home the silver medal in her category 🥈 and Junior club member William McDonnell’s outstanding race saw him come in 5th in the Junior category and top 20 overall. 👏🏻

On to Co Wexford on Sunday where a picturesque Rosslare strand provided the backdrop for the Pikeman Olympic standard distance race for club-mate Derek Nugent who achieved a personal season best for his smashing performance!  Completing the 1500m beach swim, followed by the 40km bike and 10km run on a flat but fast course, Derek took a top 10 finish and 3rd place for his age group. 👏🏻

Another weekend of superb racing ticked off the calendar! Thanks and congrats to both Waterford Tri Club and Wexford Tri Club for 2 brilliantly run events.

All eyes to the start lines for the National Championships in Westport and National Series in Mallow this coming weekend…..fingers crossed for a strong finish 💪🏻
